NATIONAL GREEN TRIBUNAL: Illegal extraction of groundwater a criminal offence. (Download Order)

The National Green Tribunal on 15.05.2020 expressed concern over the repeated allegations of "tankers mafias" in the Capital New Delhi engaged in the extraction of groundwater without any remedial action by the authorities. The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by city resident Rakesh Kumar alleging that water filling plants were being operated without license and supplying contaminated water to the residents at the Kashmere Gate here. The tribunal observed that illegal extraction of groundwater was a criminal offence and directed the authorities to devise effective mechanism for preventing its withdrawal through unauthorised tubewells. Standard Operating  Procedure (SOP) for E-Filing and Video Conferencing of cases in Punjab and Haryana High Court. Seeing that many lawyers of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are still confused about how they attend hearings via videoconferencing in the times of pandemic and social distancing, the governing high court has issued standard operating procedure (SOP) to help them learn the process. The bench is hearing all matter through Cisco Webex internet-based video-conferencing system and app, and only in case of difficulty, a WhatsApp group call is allowed. Upon being joined to the virtual courtroom, the arguing counsel shall introduce self to the bench and wait for instructions. On being asked, the party makes submissions and on the completion of the submissions, puts the microphone on 'mute' at once.
